Trumbauer Junior Festivals 2025
The Alabama Conference of Theatre (ACT) proudly hosted its annual Trumbauer Junior Festivals this spring, celebrating the creativity, skill, and passion of Alabama’s rising stars in theatre. The 2025 festivals welcomed 4th through 8th grade students to three regional sites across the state, showcasing young performers in acting, singing, and technical theatre.
The festival dates and locations were as follows:
- February 22, 2025: UMS-Wright Preparatory School – Mobile, AL
- March 1, 2025: St. James School – Montgomery, AL
- March 22, 2025: Discovery Middle School – Madison, AL
282 students from 28 schools participated in a wide range of individual and group events, from monologues and duet scenes to costume design and stage management. Each site offered a supportive environment where students could share their talents, receive constructive feedback from theatre professionals, and build confidence in their craft.
“The Trumbauer Junior Festivals are a cornerstone of ACT’s mission to support theatre education across Alabama,” said Allison Upshaw, PhD., ACT President. “These events provide young students with a platform to explore their creativity and connect with peers who share a love for the performing arts.”

The Trumbauer Junior Festivals serve as a vital part of ACT’s statewide theatre education initiative, honoring the legacy of Walter Trumbauer, an influential figure in Alabama theatre. By nurturing the talents of elementary and middle school students, ACT aims to strengthen the future of theatre in the state and inspire lifelong engagement with the arts.
